swinging into a new phase

I'll recap our weekend in rewind, starting with today.

Today Rich starts a new job. New career move, really. Bittersweet for him to leave the old gig but looking forward to this (closer to home) fresh start.

Spent the weekend prepping for the first day of work. It's much like the first day of school. We had one of those weekends where we're working as a team, doing this and doing that. But managed to take some time to celebrate and relax.

I helped a friend (who is pregnant with twins) register for her baby goods at Babies R Us yesterday. Holy crap, twins are expensive. So. Much. Stuff. But she's over-the-moon happy and I couldn't be happier for her.

Charlie had gymnastics, per the usual. But this time, he behaved exceptionally well. And swinging like the little rock star gymnast that he is.

Happy Monday, everyone. I know we're having one.

shaggy

We FINALLY took Charlie for a haircut. His mop was so out of control that it had started to just wing out in every direction. Very "casual". Very "you need to groom your kid".

Here he is on his way in . . . (it actually doesn't look too crazy here)

The finished product.

I don't want his hair too short. He looks like a little Poindexter with his hair cropped too much. I think this was a good compromise.

from one mama to another

About a year ago, I shared a story with you from another blogger, Kelle Hampton.

Her daughter, Nella, was born with Down Syndrome . . . and it came as a surprise to Kelle and her family. You can read her story here if you'd like. It's raw and moving and I've followed her ever since.

One year later, Kelle has done a fabulous job of raising awareness for the National Down Syndrome Society. I have chosen to donate to NDSS in honor of Nella and the thousands of other families raising children with Down Syndrome.

If you can, even $5 would be great, please visit Nella's Rockstars page to donate:

Thank you,

I also have a favorite blogger of the moment badge in the left rail. Right now, I love me some Under the Sycamore. Check her out.

I'm going to try to keep the graphic at the top updated and relevant. Maybe even a little funny from time to time.

Thanks for checking in.

you know what'll get you out of bed in the morning?

The plastic frog that holds your kid's bath toys falling off the wall & crashing into the tub.

Yup, 1 am and it sounded as though someone tried to break down our front door to rob us. Rich did some crazy sort of Matrix-esque move over me and out of bed, straight down the hall. Cook ran into the living room barking and I bolted looking for the phone.

After we realized no one was trying to break in, I looked in the bath tub to see this.
morning disaster

So I left it and went back to bed.

Ugh.

Happy Friday.

rockin' the flannel

We had a nice weekend. Night on the town. Laundry. Grocery shopping. The usual. More purging of items from the house. Still working on my 30% goal. This house will be lightened, I swear!

Enjoying the next week or so before the chaos of work travel begins.

Happy mid-January everyone.

the annual photo clean-up

Today I'm going through my thousands of photos from 2010, relentlessly deleting duplicates and less-than-stellar shots.

I'll backup the remaining photos on an external hard drive + Flickr, then delete them off my Mac. Fresh start. And this year, I swear, I'm going to do the deleting as soon as I move them onto my Mac.

But, through the purging process, I found this little gem.

my Grandma is famous

Well, on local TV in Michigan. And now across blog land.

My Mom's Mom, Grandma O'brien, was interviewed by a news station regarding the closing of a local dentist office. Check her out at the 47 second mark.

Good job, Grandma! Next up, Jon Stewart.

love,
Marci

favorite Phee photo of 2010

Say that 5 times fast, will ya?

I've decided that I'm going to choose ONE, just one single solitary photo at the end of each year as my favorite Phee photo.

This means it had to be taken by a Phee (Rich, Marci or Charlie). It doesn't have to be of a Phee. And it can be with any camera.

For 2010, I chose (drumroll please .....................)

she's embarrassed

Rich took this photo with our Canon 7D in July. Cook just returned home from the groomers. The composition, the color, the lighting, the expression on Cook's face. I can't stand it. Hands down, my favorite.

Go ahead, judge me. Think what you want of me for choosing a photo of my dog over my kid. I don't care. It's that good of a photo.

2010 in review

We’ve eased into the New Year here at the Phee household. (Hence the 3 day late New Year’s post.)

2010 was a much needed year of ‘nothingness’, peace and quiet for us. After the tumultuous 2009 we experienced, we craved a year of staying around the house, cooking, keeping short to-do lists and keeping the ambitions at bay. A year to reflect, to mourn, to enjoy each other’s every breath.

And that we did.

This past year, the Phees have:
• Gone on our first date night
• Enjoyed a visit from MaryAnn and Jen
• Turned 33 (Rich & Marci both)
• Finally said yes to glasses
Painted
• Experienced an Easter earthquake
• Won a hard-earned award at work
• Spent 2 weeks in Michigan
• Enjoyed that Hawaii trip from aforementioned award from work
• Celebrated the 4th in Southern California instead of Michigan
• Watched in wonder as my Dad started his sobriety journey, July 30 2010
• Made homemade pickles
• Hung out with the Peters squared
• Visited with my little brother Steve and his g-friend Sarah
• Took a dragon trick or treating
• Spent time with Tom & Elaine in California
• Started gymnastics
• Took a trip to Big Sur
• Peed in the toilet (Charlie, not us)
• Went to Disneyland with my Dad
• Celebrated Charlie’s 2nd birthday
• Had a quiet Christmas

Below is our year in photos. Set to Eddie Vedder music, because nothing frames the year better than good ol’ Eddie.

2011 will be different. 2011 will be ambitious, energetic, busier but still trying to balance those quiet weekends of nothingness.

Happy New Year.

The Phees
