the end of October

Some snippets from the end of our month -

My getaway last weekend with Michelle.

the view from Cheeky's

The view while stuck in traffic. And an idea of what Halloween weekend weather is like for the Southern Californians.

bang bang

Charlie's BFF has a new 'do today.

I love it.

But she didn't love me taking her photo.

come ooonnnnnnnn, Mom

Every day, I walk down to pick up Charlie from his babysitter.

Every day, he walks a few steps ahead of me, picking up leaves and pushing down the neighbors' sprinkler heads.

Every so often, he turns around and yells "Mommy". Sort of like, "Get a move on, old lady!"

eagerly awaiting

This week's photo assignment was animals. Easy-peasy. I live with animals.

Namely, this hairy mutt: Cook.

eagerly awaiting

I love this photo because this is an example of her character. Here, she is positioned next to Charlie (not pictured), with her tail on my feet, staring intently out the front door. Waiting for Rich to get home.

She does this every single day. And when his car pulls in the driveway, watch out world! Cook goes crrrrraaaaazzzzy!

pig pen

Charlie likes to play in the dirt. Because he's a boy. And he likes to torture his mother.

pig pen

This past weekend, he spent time in the backyard transferring dirt from our flower beds to our patio floor.

pig pen

One handful at a time.

The artwork you see on his feet? Oh that? That happened in about 2 seconds while I was connecting my camera to the laptop. I was *this* close to having to clean ink pen off the walls.

Then Daddy comes in to clean up.

For some reason, looking through these photos that Katie took of the kids on Saturday at gymnastics made me think of the late seventies/early 80s and Nadia Comaneci. (You know, the Romanian Olympic gymnast??) Anyway, I had to convert all of the photos into seventies-vintage style because it just fits.

But here are the kiddos at gymnastics. And one tired Pops.

what's going on

Some updates on the Phee family as of late –

Rich & I had a date Sunday. Katie & Ryan so graciously babysat Chazzy so we could meet up with some biker friends and hang out. (We were supposed to ride the bike but the weather had other ideas.) It was so strange to be out & about but not digging through a bag for sippy cups and crackers every few minutes. (Thank you Katie & Ryan!)

Charlie started gymnastics on Saturday morning. When I write “morning”, I mean 8:15 at the butt crack of dawn. But he enjoyed it. He didn’t exactly thrive during circle time but he can pull himself up on those bars like a powerhouse.

I took baby photos on Saturday morning. O.M.G. She’s so cute, Ngia (pronounced NEE-uh) looks fantastic, and I had a lot of fun taking the photos. See here.

Work is getting better, much better.

SoCal fall is officially here. Kind of grey and gloomy. Mid to high sixties. Time for hooded sweatshirts and Ugg boots.

Haven’t started on Charlie’s Halloween costume, haven’t done much home improvement, haven’t taken my busted car into the shop yet. Haven’t done a lot of things. But I did book my Marci and Michelle Weekend to Palm Springs for this coming Saturday. Spa, poolside, spa, spa, spa, people watching and did I mention Michelle? It doesn’t get much better than that.

Happy Monday, folks. See below for some shots of Charlie.

The Phee’s

This kid loves him some Yo Gabba Gabba. It’s not as if he’s fixated with TV, he’s not. *Just* Yo Gabba. And this is how focused he is when it’s on.

Couch Potato . . . Focused on Yo Gabba

And this is his giant foot. His giant foot that smells like the foot of an old man who wears steel-toed boots and works in a foundry. Amazing. (Greg – this one’s for you!)

Couch Potato . . . and his Giant Foot

This kid also loves him some yogurt with a pinch of vanilla almond granola. Who am I kidding? He’ll eat the yogurt plain and then snack on some dog food if I don’t watch him carefully.

With so many photos of him with a serious look on his face, I wanted to include a big, fat, mischievous, smile –

He does smile, I swear

oh, little Liv

I took photos of my friend and coworker's baby girl today, Olivia. She's about 2 months old and endlessly adorable.

Life, lately

An update on why the blog has been quiet & why I've been terrible about keeping touch . . .

Last week I rear-ended someone in Rich's Lexus. Did $5k in damage to his car and have to rent a car for two weeks.

Work has been ROUGH. I'll leave it at that.

Charlie's behavior has been so out of control that we have decided never to eat at restaurant again with him and started a sticker chart for good behavior. It was either that or check Rich and I into a center for insane parents.

Last night, while sitting at a stoplight and thinking about how hectic things have been lately, I was rear-ended HARD by a hit & run a-hole in a big truck. In my less-than-one-year old SUV. Which will promptly go into the shop and we get to rent *another* car for a few weeks.

So enough of my whining. But I'll be busy for a few more weeks and quiet on the blog / phone / email front.

it's been a while

I know.

I haven't blogged in a while. There are so many photos on my hard drive that NEED to be blogged. And written about. But it's just not going to happen for a while.

So in the meantime, here's a photo of Charlie being a couch potato.

Charlie, being a couch potato

I'm so jealous of him. I want to be doing exactly that right this second.

Omma & Papa Vroom

I wanted this to be a lengthier post but it's going to be the Cliff Notes version instead.

THANK YOU Tom & Elaine for a wonderful visit last week and weekend!

The truck has seatbelts and a tailgate that is perfect to catch a rolling kid. (Seriously, Rich is so in love with all the bells and whistles, thank you.)

The wacky server at Preveza has probably decided to never have children.

I'm officially boycotting ToysRUs and their lack of stupid sand tables.

We are using the pool light nightly.

Charlie roams around the garage, looking under the truck, calling "Ommmmmma".

Yes, he has smacked his head again. It's a daily thing.

No, the roast was not dry. We loved it.

Thank you again!

Happy 22 Months

22 months old

Charlie baby,
Today you are 22 months old. I'm in Texas and Daddy is flying solo with you.
You are a joy, filled with a new vocabulary, and absolutely obsessed with Yo Gabba Gabba. You've watched it 3 times tonight already (according to Pops).
We love you, Chazzy boy. Keep growing big & strong.

One Day on Earth

I'm going to participate in something pretty cool - a worldwide video time capsule!

One Day on Earth Open Source Global Documentary Project Badge

And it's easy. On Sunday, 10/10, I will take video throughout the day of "our day in the life". Limited editing. Upload per this organization's instructions. And if I'm lucky, it will be included in their film that highlights what goes on One Day on Earth.

And maybe I'll share some of that footage here . . . I'm going to use the 7D. Which scares me but I need to learn it.

off to a great start

October is off to a great start, my friends.

what a view

This is the view from my workplace. At 7 am. This is fall in southern California.

New month. New possibilities. As McDonald's says, I'm lovin' it.
