You Capture [Flowers]

This week's photo assignment from IShouldBeFoldingLaundry is flowers.

Photobucket

I wasn't thinking about the assignment as I snapped pictures this weekend but as I was going through the shots last night . . . I found these little gems!

Granted, he's cramming a dandelion up his nose. Which is technically a weed. But still. Charlie thinks he is stopping and smelling the flowers. Which is a great life reminder in & of itself. Even if it's a dirty weed.

an unplanned weekend

It was one of those weekends that started with “plans”. Plans to do things around or to the house. Plans to venture to the LA Fair. Plans to finish Chazzy’s blog book. Plans to cook healthy meals and exercise and usher in fall.

Our plans were blown out of the water. And it ended up being the kind of weekend we needed.

Friday night was warmed up enchiladas from the Ralph’s deli. And lots of playing with Charlie.

Enjoyed a sunset swim with the Morads. The kids tried out their new “Puddle Jumper” life vests. Awesome. They can float upright and kick and sort of swim without flipping around like an out of control bobber.

Saturday morning brought an unbearable heat wave. Rigo came to clean so Chazzy and Diego rode their boards around out front. He hasn’t figured out how to ride the scooter properly. Instead we push him on it as though it’s a Segway.

Tom & Michelle came over for chili & cornbread Saturday evening. Because it’s supposed to be fall. It wasn’t supposed to be 104 degrees. But we made do. And lounged.

Sunday morning I woke up at 6 am to start my chocolate chip sweet rolls. Because I’m insane.

Headed out for Ryan’s birthday breakfast. But Charlie tried to talk us into letting him take his motorcycle.

We ended up letting Rich drive us in the SUV.

And Chazzy zoned out. (He looks so OLD in this photo!)

Enjoyed breakfast at Ruby’s in Seal. Wished Ryan happy 27 years. (Now I feel old.)

Charlie slept the whole way home.

We ended the day with piles of laundry, grilled burgers with homemade pickles, sitting at the kitchen table until every song has played through the John Mayer playlist. Put Charlie down for the night, enjoyed a glass of wine on the (freshly washed) patio and smiled about everything we didn’t get done. But happy about the way it all worked out.

Now the Phee adventures begin. Tom and Elaine are enjoying breakfast with Rich and Chazzarino at Schooner or Later as I type. Bastards.

Katie's friend, Molly, took the *real* photos at Katie's shower on the 18th. She's an amazing photographer - check her out: MollyWilliamsPhotography

ooohey goohey delicious

Luck was on my side.

Rich did ALL of the laundy yesterday (meaning - every garment in our house because it was out of control) so I could bake these:

They turned out perfectly! I've never baked anything this complicated. I channeled my inner-Linda, got to work, and just did it.

They are now at my house, covered in a homemade icing, waiting to be devoured by my father-in-law. Who should be at my house any second . . .

Finally

After a long morning of giving me hell, Charlie is finally down for a nap.

Now, where's my coffee and trash TV?

spoiled

I'm a lucky gal.

Rich just ordered this book for me. So I can be even more annoying with the camera.

almost a skateboard

You would think that Charlie's recent GIANT BUMP ON HIS HEAD would keep one of his parents (Rich) from ordering this for him . . .

But it didn't. This bad boy is on its way to our house. And yes, a helmet and pads are coming too.

I'm a nervous wreck already.

You Capture [Pink]

I'm participating in a project called "You Capture" from a fellow blogger's site: www.ishouldbefoldinglaundry.com. The gist of it is - she hands out a photography assignment, I take the photos, post here & link back to her site. Pretty cool and will force me to get out of my photo taking 'box', which is to take 3,000 photos of Charlie.

This week's assignment was my choice. I was free to pick any theme. So I chose "pink".

The reason I chose pink is because it's my friend Katie's favorite color. It's also the opposite of my favorite color(s) . . . which happen to be boring neutrals and the occasional lime green.

Below are my captures, from Katie's shower. Here you can see everyone else's captures: http://www.ishouldbefoldinglaundry.com/2010/09/you-capture-your-choice.html

sprinkle, sprinkle little baby

This past Saturday, friends and family showered my friend & neighbor - Katie - with love and gifts for her 2nd baby girl.

As a reflection of her love of Elvis, the bambino's name will be Presley. The theme of the sprinkle (for those who don't know, a "sprinkle" is a baby shower for a 2nd child) was Graceland circa 1965.

Katie's cousin did her hair a la Priscilla (and I made her wear the Elvis glasses - which look great on her, actually).

Giulietta ran around, visiting and getting loved on.

Gifts were opened, sherbet punch was slurped, family chatted, friends caught up, Charlie ate way too much cupcake . . .

And another baby was sprinkled with love. Keep 'em coming, Morads!

the price of saving money

This weekend, I cut Charlie's hair. Yes, I lopped his gorgeous curls off into a pile on the patio floor.

And I butchered his 'do. Butchered. It's probably the worst haircut he'll ever have.

Thankfully, it's just hair and it'll grow back. But next time, I'm spending the dough & taking him to a proper salon.

NOTE: The goose egg on his head is from a little accident he had at Katie's sprinkle on Saturday. 1 push cart + 1 unexpected lip in the concrete = another injury.
